Description of Department:

The Township of Maplewood has two library locations--the Memorial Library and the Hilton Branch.  The Library Department has a designated website at http://www.maplewoodlibrary.org/

Mission Statement:

The Mission of the Maplewood Memorial Library is to meet the educational, recreational and informational needs of the community.  Our purpose is to enrich the quality of life of the residents of Maplewood.

  The Maplewood Memorial Library:

·         Strives to instill a love of reading and books for patrons of all ages. 

·          Provides a place for life-long learning, intellectual freedom and cultural stimulation. 

·         Represents, through its collections, the diverse interests and points of view of   the community.

·         Gives its patrons access to the global resources of the Internet. 

The Maplewood Library adheres to the principles of the American Library Association Bill of Rights and Freedom to Read Statements.

2010 Department Goals

The Library will focus on the following goals during the first year of the Strategic Plan

•    Redesign and enrich the Library Website
•    Fundraising and advocacy including establishing a Foundation
•    Increasing membership in the Library to 85% 
•    Surveying patrons regarding services and hours of operation – create a  link   from the Township webpage to solicit more responses
•    Focus on customer service in staff training
•    Working with the schools on early literacy and achievement gap issue
•     Develop “green guidelines” for the libraries
•     Expand teen services during after school hours
•     Publish annual report of library activities
