Baseball:
Maplewood and South
Orange run a joint baseball program. There are a
variety of
leagues offered to accommodate different ages and skill

Spring Basketball :
This is a new program for our Spring Schedule and is open to boys and
girls in Maplewood and South Orange. This is a 10 week program,
beginning on March 11th that will focus on skill building and teaching of
the basics of basketball through various instructional drills. All programs
will be held at Maplewood Middle School.
Grades 1-2: Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00pm-7:00pm.
Cost: $125 (Limited to first 60 registrants)
Grades 3-5: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00pm-7:30pm.
Cost: $150 (Limited to first 60 registrants)
Middle School Basketball Clinic: Focuses on

This camp will teach fundamental basketball skills while promoting full

Chess Club is a program designed to teach children and their

Boys: The Maplewood Lacrosse
Club offers Lacrosse teams for children
in grades 2-8. As well as club teams,
there are travel teams, and a
Kindergarten-1st grade clinic which
introduces the sport to children who
have never played before.

Girls on the run:
Girls on the run is an experimental learning program that combines
training for a 3.1 mile run/walk event with life-changing, self esteem
enhancing, uplifting workouts that encourage emotional, social, and
physical development.
Participants learn how to make healthy
decisions, resolve conflicts, and
work in groups.

Middle School Co-Ed Ultimate Frisbee:
Ultimate Frisbee is a fast moving, non contact sport played with a
Frisbee. Invented in Maplewood by Columbia High School students in
1968, it has grown to be played by thousands around the world. This
program is geared toward middle school children who are interested in
learning the basics, fundamentals and strategies behind Ultimate!
The Spring Season will begin in Mid March and run until Mid June.

Petite Equestrian Program (PEP):
Geared for children ages 3 to 6. Participants will learn safety on and
around the ponies, grooming techniques, basic riding skills, and other
primary horsemanship skills. While this is not a Horseback Riding lesson
per say, the program does include an exciting riding component
whereas each child will get to ride about 20 minutes and learn how to
properly mount, dismount, hold the reins and control the pony at a walk,
and a few steps of trot.
This program will take place at Memorial Park from July 15th- July 18th
from 3:00pm-4:15pm. (The rain date is currently set for July 19th)

Pony Grooming Riding Program (PGRP):
Geared for children ages 7 to 13. This unique program provides an
exciting and inexpensive hands-on introduction to the wonderful world
of equines in a fun-filled, non-threatening atmosphere. Participants will
learn safety on and around the horses, basic anatomy, equine senses
and body language, grooming, the tack and harness, driving the
miniature horse, English and western styles, barn management and
careers in the industry.
This program will take place at Memorial Park from July 15th- July 18th
from 4:30pm-6:30pm. (The rain date is currently set for July 19th)

Soccer (Travel):
Cougar soccer is open to Maplewood and South Orange residents. For

Soccer (K-2):
The Maplewood/South Orange Cougar Kicker and Academy programs
provide soccer fun, fitness and training in a small-sized format. This
program is for Maplewood and South Orange boys and girls in grades

Soccer (Recreation League):
South Mountain Soccer is a recreational soccer program sponsored by
the South Orange Department of Recreation & Cultural Affairs. This
program is for South Orange and Maplewood children in grades 3
through 8. It offers a wide range of opportunity for players at all levels
in both the Fall and/or Spring seasons. Each season is approximately 10
weeks long and includes professional training one day a week as well
as a game each weekend.

US Sports Institute: Total Sports and Spring Soccer
The
US Sports Institute will be holding three soccer programs for our
Spring Season.

Total Sports Squirts: Soccer Squirts is a
soccer clinic for children ages
3-5 that
teaches the fundamentals of soccer through a
program of non-competitive activities
and fun games.
This program takes place at Memorial Park.There are
two days to choose from for this program:
Thursdays from 4:30pm-5:30pm for 7 weeks
beginning on April 18th .

Sundays from 9:30am-10:30am OR
10:30am-11:30am for 7 weeks

Parent and Me Squirts: This program is designed to introduce children
aged 2-5 years old to a variety of sports, games and
group activities, all with the help of mom or dad! This
program will take place at Memorial Park and will run
on Thursdays from 4:30pm-5:15pm for 7 weeks,
beginning April 18th. Cost: $95
Parent and Me Soccer: Parent
& Me Soccer is a fun and positive
introduction to soccer for children ages
2-3 and their
parents! With a parent participating by their side, kids
will have fun learning the fundamental skills of soccer
through a program of
structured activities, fun based
games, and scrimmages. Each session focuses on
maximizing participation through a variety of fun
games designed to stimulate a child's imagination and
develop motor skills. This is an excellent opportunity for
parents to spend quality time with their children while
easing them into social situations with support and
confidence.
This program will be held at Memorial Park and will run
for 7 weeks on Sundays from 9:30am-10:15am or
10:30am-11:15am beginning on April 14th. Cost: $95
Summer Camps for US Sports Institute:
First Play Soccer Camp: Experience the excitement of the world's most
popular sport at this highly appraised camp- First
Play Soccer! Children will thrive on the exciting, fun
atmosphere generated by the USSI International and
qualified coaches. Participants will engage in a
variety of fun games and challenges designed to
enhance basic soccer skills.
This camp is for children who are 5-12 years old. It will take place at
Memorial Park from August 26th-August 30th. There are three times to
choose from:

Premier Play Soccer Camp: The Premier Play Soccer Camp curriculum is
inspired by youth development academies of
Europe's top soccer clubs such as AC Milan,
Barcelona, and Manchester United. This unique
camp allows travel soccer players to train like
professionals where each player ill learn an
array of specific soccer techniques and tactics.
This camp is for children who are 5-14 years old. It wil ltake place at
Memorial Park from August 26th- August 30th. There are three times to
choose from:

Soccer Squirts Camp: Soccer Squirts is the original age 3-5 soccer camp for
boys and girls. Often imitated, never duplicated; learn
the game through a series of fun based games and
scrimmages. Each session focuses on maximizing
participation and learning the fundamental skills of
soccer trough a variety of fun structured activities all
designed to stimulate a child's imagination and develop
motor skills.
This program is for children who are 3-5 years old. It will take place at
Memorial Park from August 26th- August 30th from 4:30pm-5:30pm.

Softball (Maplewood/South Orange Recreation ):
The MSO Recreation Softball program is open to all
girls from
Kindergarten to 8th Grade who live in either Maplewood
or South
Orange. Any girl who is
interested in softball can participate in the
program – there are no tryouts.

Villagers Travel Softball:
The MSO travel softball program, The
Villagers, is more intense than the
Recreation Softball program and requires
girls to participate in
competitive tryouts in order to make the teams. It
is open to girls who
live in Maplewood or South Orange in grades 6, 7, and 8. Separate
tryouts are held each season for each
of the age brackets. The Villagers
plays a 12- 15 game schedule from
April-June.

Tennis:
Maplewood
Tennis is run by Tennis Pro John Trinity. There are a variety
of classes offered to accommodate all different ages and skill levels.
Classes are held in the evenings at the Memorial Park Tennis courts on
Valley
Street.
