Maplewood's Vibrant Economy
Location and Transportation:

Maplewood's strategic location makes it a unique place to live and work!

Located in metropolitan New York City, just 12 miles west of Manhattan and in the heart of affluent west Essex County, Maplewood is less than 1 mile from the intersection of the Garden State Parkway and I-78, and minutes from the N.J. Turnpike.

Maplewood's  New Jersey Transit train station provides 44 daily trains to NY Penn Station, just a 30 minute ride away, and over 30 daily trains to Hoboken. Regional commuters come into our town every day.

One of our major commercial thoroughfares, Springfield Avenue, is a main artery traveled daily by five NJ Transit bus lines and regional east-west suburban traffic passes through our community, connecting Newark to Springfield.

Newark's Liberty International Airport and Port Newark, a deep-sea port, are within 15 minutes of the Township. This is particularly attractive for those firms involved in telecommunications, health care and international trade.

Special Improvement Districts:

Maplewood is home to two Special Improvement Districts (SIDs), the Springfield Avenue Partnership and the Maplewood Village Alliance. Both SIDs serve as integral points of contact between the Township and business owners, and  sponsor events within their districts. Maplewood also benefits from an active Chamber of Commerce.

New Commercial Construction

Maplewood continues to draw new businesses that keep consumer dollars within our community.  Under construction on Valley Street, just north of Parker Avenue is a 12,000 square foot CVS, whose tentative opening date is late February.

Maplewood's Housing Stock

Maplewood has an enviable mix of early 20th century homes whose architectural variety includes colonials, four square, tudor, and craftsman bungalows.  Our community also boasts a range of rental units abutting the New Jersey Transit rail station and Memorial and DeHart Parks.

The Station House Apartments," at 125 Dunnell Road, across from Memorial Park and steps from the train station, has 50 one and two bedroom rental units.  Adjacent to DeHart Park is "Maplewood Crossing," which consists of 126 rental units.
