During a public health emergency that involves communicable/ infectious diseases, the responsibilities of the local health department are to:
1. Inform the public about health behaviors that help to protect the health and safety of the public and reduce exposure
2. Monitor the health status of the community and prevent the further spread of communicable diseases
3. Connect residents to medical/ healthcare services to prevent further illness, as needed
